Bodholdt Speed Testing is real cellular speed and coverage data, crowdsourced by people who actually travel, not drawn by carrier marketing departments.

Every carrier publishes a coverage map. Every one of them is a sales tool: modeled predictions, painted optimistically, rarely refreshed. When you’re standing in a dead spot staring at a map that swears you have five bars, you’ve met the problem this exists to fix.

This is the opposite. Every point on the map is a real speed test run on a real phone, on a real network, by a real person who was actually there. No models. No guesses. No marketing.

How it works

  • Real tests, real devices. The app measures download, upload, latency, and network type over your live cellular connection. The same numbers you’d feel streaming, calling, or loading a map in the middle of nowhere.
  • Crowdsourced by travelers. The more people test, the sharper the picture. Drive a new road, ride a new train line, visit a town nobody’s mapped, and you add a piece nobody else had.
  • Freshness is the whole point. A coverage map is only useful if it’s current. Recent tests are weighted, and you can always see how fresh the answer is. “Best here, tested today” beats a quarterly-aggregate blob every time.
  • Honest about what we don’t know. Where the data is thin, it says so, plainly. You’ll never get a confident answer built on three stale tests. An honest “not enough data here yet” is worth more than a pretty lie.

Privacy

One person runs this, and you’re never the product.

  • Your tests are private by default. Nothing is shown publicly unless you choose to share it.
  • Public coverage data is aggregated and anonymized. Individual tests are never exposed, and a location never appears until enough independent people have tested it that no single person can be identified.
  • Your data is never sold and you’re never tracked. No ad networks, no data brokers, no selling your location to anyone, ever.

Who’s behind it

Bodholdt Speed Testing is a passion project. I started prototyping, designing, and developing it in 2021. One person, not a company, not a carrier, not an ad network. I built it because every coverage map I’d ever used was a sales tool: pretty, optimistic, and wrong the moment I actually needed signal.

This is the opposite: a map built only from real tests on real phones, including yours. You’re never the product. Your data is never sold and you’re never tracked. It answers to no one but the people using it. That’s the whole idea.

Help map the real network

Run a test wherever you are. Every one makes the map sharper for the next person. The app is coming soon to iOS and Android.
